The Steward’s Mentality

“Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful”…”And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” – 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 & 7 (NKJV).

God is deliberate, organized and specific in His dealings with men. He gives each person gifts and graces each of us marvelously and wonderfully when we are born into the earth. These gifts and graces are deposited in you by God so that you can fulfil His mandate to all men on the earth: “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and dominate it.” You have a special responsibility to make this mandate your experience here on the earth!

These gifts and talents God has given you are truly special. And when something of divine value is entrusted into your hands, it is your responsibility to steward and manage that thing properly. A good steward is one who knows that all they are and all they have comes from and belongs to God, because God is the source of all things. The resources we are given must be used with that sense of honour and respect.

Good, faithful stewards also ensure that the gifts and resources placed in their lives are treated with the utmost care and reverence. They channel these gifts towards the divine mandate God has given them. They don’t use their gifts for personal gain alone. Their primary aim is to use what God has given them faithfully, to ensure that they glorify God and bless His people. You are a steward of the blessings and resources God has put in your hands.

This week, keep God’s mandate to you in your heart. Remember to use your gifts and resources for His glory. Look to Him for instruction and direction on how to use the gifts He has given you in a way that makes Him happy. Make it your heart’s desire to please God with what He has given you, and find ways to be an outlet that God can use to accomplish His agenda and meet the needs of others. This is the mindset of a true, God-like steward!
