A Life of Courage

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”- Joshua 1:9

For a lot of us, we have goals and ambitions that we have put on the back burner because of a shortage of courage. A lot of people in the world today are living their fears and not their dreams because of a simple lack of courage. But like Joshua, we have received a command to be strong and courageous! God has great plans for us but we can’t actualize those plans and change the earth for the better if we refuse to take steps in courage.

Take a look at the patriarchs in the Bible who lived truly impactful lives in their time. Abraham had to leave his father’s house, and that took courage. It took courage for Noah to believe and obey God’s instruction to build an ark when everyone else was living their best lives and having fun. Moses exhibited courage in going to Pharaoh, the most powerful king in the world at the time to demand that he let God’s people go. David displayed immense courage, both to rescue his father’s sheep from the lion and the bear and to stand before Goliath to fight for Israel.

Courage is essential if you want to do the will of God. God’s instructions often seem impossible. Sometimes, they seem downright dangerous. Many times, we look at ourselves, and we look inadequate in the face of what God has asked us to do. But God’s people must always stand in courage and resist the spirit of fear. Remember, the righteous are as bold as a lion! And God has given us the spirit of power, of love and a sound mind!

So go forward in the strength of God. Set your face to the task God has given you and choose courage over fear! God will send you help when you need it, and he will make all things work together for your good! Be strong and very courageous!
